Symptoms and Prevention of Phishing attack

Phishing is an unauthorized technique to send out millions of e-mails in the name of a renowned organization such as a Bank or some statuary body. Name, address, account number, date of birth and other confidential information relatedto identity are asked in such e-mails. Moreover, this also includes e-mailsthat redirect the users into an illegal website that asks for such private details. Very much like hooking bait while fishing, hackers use baits of luring individuals to some lucrative offer to extract out confidential information. Phishing can also be used as another method to steal identity of individuals. Other than asking for personal details, phishing also includes questions such as: .Phone Number .Social Security Number .Bank Account Numbers .Passwords or PIN numbers .ATM, Debit, or Credit Card Number .Credit Card Validation Codes Identifying Phishing 1.Legitimate sites never ask for personal information especially banks, if a user receives such e-mail, the user should avoid replying or directly contact the bank they have account with. 2.While making a purchase online, check the URL and ensure that it is a safe website. Since, making payments online requires providing creditor debit card information, a user should always ensure that the information being provided by the user will remain confidential. 3.If you want to click on a link attached on the received e-mail, move the cursor around it. Once you are satisfied about the page the link will redirect you to then click on the link. Links are often, redirected to web pages that are illegal and are source of malware and virus infestation. 4.Check for the lock sign in the URL bar before you give away your identity information. URLs without with any sign of lock or with URL starting with ‘http/’ are considered to sites that are less secure.
